This year Thalys and its agency Rosapark wanted to invite the general public to enjoy an unprecedented sensorial experience: a unique way to discover cities through their sounds;
Going beyond the picture postcard, cities in the Thalys network like to make themselves heard.
To capture the wealth of their sound universe, 3 of the cities are featured in an exciting hunt for sounds: the street vendors of the Paris markets, the nocturnal atmosphere of Brussels, the lapping of the water in the canals of Amsterdam... Poetic, amazing and funny sounds, gathered with a hand-held microphone.
Thanks to a partnership with INA, Thalys also plunges listeners into the timeless sounds that have marked the history of France's capital city, including General de Gaulle's emblematic address during the Liberation of Paris.
A remarkable system has been created to host these life fragments: display panels present maps with minimalist graphics and hundreds of jack sockets.
The maps are transformed into labyrinths to be travelled by ear, once the listener has simply plugged in a headset.
