In this boxed set featuring the” third great quintet” of Miles Davis, SONY MUSIC and LEGACY JAZZ present a selection of sound recordings and footage of the mythical “Lost Band” tour of Europe in July 1969. No studio recordings were ever made by the legendary quintet, with a line-up of Miles Davis (trumpet), Wayne Shorter (tenor sax), Chick Corea (electric and acoustic piano), Dave Holland (double bass) and Jack DeJohnette (drums).
Fortunately, the concerts on this tour, which has now taken on cult status, were recorded at the time by state-owned radio and TV organisations in France, Sweden and Germany.
The recordings and footage in this Live in Europe 1969 : The Bootleg Series Vol.2 boxed set are thus amongst the group’s rarest, and are the first ever by this line-up to be officially released.
The three CDs in the boxed set feature complete recordings made at the Antibes Jazz Festival on 25 and 26 July, from the INA archives (CD1 & CD2), and at the Newport Jazz Festival in Europe, held at Stockholm’s Folkets Hus (CD3). The DVD (in colour) is a recording of the whole of the quintet’s concert in Berlin on 7 November 1969.
